Pakistan likely to submit report on 26/11 today

More than two months after the Mumbai terror attacks, there are reports in the Pakistan media saying Islamabad has finished investigations into the 26/11 attack and a reply to India’s dossier could be expected on Monday.

Here are some of the details of probe by Pakistan.

Pakistan says the strikes were planned in a third country, and not in India or Pakistan.

According to investigations, the attackers had accomplices in India. Islamabad will request New Delhi access to Ajmal Qasab in a bid to identify them.

The Pakistani media is also reporting that five Pakistanis, including Qasab, are likely to be tried in the country.

The Defence Coordination Committee meeting is scheduled at 12:00 in the afternoon at the National Assembly. The meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani. A notification about it has been issued by the Prime Minister’s secretariat.

In all likelihood, once the probe report is reviewed by the Defence Coordination Committee, it will be handed over to the Foreign Office who will then hand over the report to the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.

Significantly, US special envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Holbrooke is scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on Monday evening.
